On the night of December 23, the upper floor of a residential building in the center of Sonneberg in Thuringia burned down. A 28-year-old Hungarian man was killed in the fire. A 19-year-old was able to escape firefighters through the window in time, and was taken to hospital with minor injuries and smoke poisoning.
According to Thuringian police, there may have been arson, and a 20-year-old young man in the area has been remanded in custody.
The in Südthüringen writes that the Hungarian man worked for a local company and temporarily lived in the house with a friend.
A total of 12 people were left homeless due to the fire, they moved to relatives or went to accommodation mediated by the city office.
