AMD Athlon Gold PRO 4150GE – entry-level processor with Zen 2 cores and Radeon Vega graphics

In a few days, the next generation of APUs from AMD will be revealed. This time we are talking about the Rembrandt family, which uses Zen 3+ cores (i.e. de facto Zen 3 transferred to 6 nm lithography) and integrated graphics chips based on the RDNA 2 architecture. The new processors will be used in efficient laptops for gaming and work, as well as small ultrabooks or hybrids. However, it seems that the manufacturer is quietly trying to refresh the Athlon Gold PRO series. The last representative of the series – Athlon Gold PRO 3150GE was released in the summer of 2020. It belongs to the Dali family and offers Zen + cores, manufactured in 12 nm TSMC lithography. Meanwhile, the first information about his successor – Athlon Gold PRO 4150GE appeared on the web.

There is information on the network about the AMD Athlon Gold PRO 4150GE APU, which would be the successor to the Athlon PRO 3150GE model.

AMD Athlon Gold PRO 4150GE is to be part of the Renoir family, which means using, among others Zen 2 cores, using 7nm TSMC lithography. According to information that has appeared on the network, this processor will have 4 physical Zen 2 cores without SMT support. It will therefore be a 4-core and 4-thread system, similar to the Athlon Gold PRO 3150GE. The integrated graphics system will also be more powerful. While still based on the Vega architecture, it will be a refreshed version with 5 CU blocks (Vega 5 in 7 nm lithography). The predecessor only offered 3 blocks of Compute Units with lower performance. The processor’s TDP is to be 35 W.

The base frequency of the processor is to be 3.3 GHz with the possibility of increasing in Turbo mode to a maximum of 3.7 GHz. Interestingly, the AMD Athlon Gold PRO 4150GE has already appeared on the AliExpress website, where it can be purchased for less than $ 120. The manufacturer did not officially disclose such a chip, but the mere fact of selling it on one of the websites with detailed information about the specification and a photo of the APU suggests that AMD may quietly introduce the new chip to its offer for days. It is possible that, in addition to the Athlon Gold PRO 4150GE, there will also be other processors from the Athlon 4000 series.
