Known for his ability to anticipate political scenarios, the president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, does not rule out the possibility that the president Jair Bolsonaro stay out of the second round of the 2022 dispute. For Kassab, who is betting on the Senate president’s candidacy project, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), Bolsonaro has been “a lot wrong” and this is increasing his political wear in the electorate.
“He’s been wrong a lot. So much so that it had 60, 70% approval and today it has 20%. I think he has a big chance of not making it to the second round,” said Kassab. “See his wear and tear with the pandemic, with the number of unemployed. I don’t see a chance for growth. I think his maximum ceiling is 22, 23%. And I believe it could fall further.”
Former mayor of São Paulo, Kassab cites Bolsonaro’s latest mistake as your absence in Bahia to accompany the dramatic situation experienced in the state due to heavy rains. It is a tragedy that has killed at least 24 people and left thousands homeless.
“Now, for example, the population sees the president on a jet ski while Bahia is there, underwater”, criticized Kassab, who was Minister of Communications in the government of Michel Temer and Cities in the management of Dilma Rousseff. “I’m not saying he shouldn’t have a vacation. But I think anyone else who was president would have cut short the vacation. It is an important gesture to show the government’s solidarity. Good politics show that he should be present there because he needs to set an example.”
Despite the political scenario in which the former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) leads the polls, followed by Bolsonaro, Kassab guaranteed that the PSD will keep its files in Rodrigo Pacheco’s candidacy. “He is an intelligent person who has both public and private administrative experience. It has political leadership, it has a leading role, it has a platform. His profile is good.”
