This Saturday morning (01/01) the Fire Department resumed the search for a man who had drowned in Lagoa da Pampulha. According to witnesses, around 11 am on Friday (31/12), he would have stripped off his clothes and jumped in for a swim, but he did not surface.
Starting at 8:00 am this morning, the firefighters’ searches are concentrated in the vicinity of the spillway. A mapping of the area will be done using a Sonar, equipment that scans the background.
The depth of the pond is approximately 18 meters. Once the body is located by the device, the military will withdraw through a dry suit-dependent diving system.
According to the witness who called the fire department, as he passed by the shore, he saw a man taking off his clothes and jumping into the pond. He swam for a moment and dove, not coming back up. The witness also tells that he ran to the edge of the lake and, as he no longer saw the man, he decided to call the Fire Department.
