“We are already preparing for the ‘boom’ of cases after New Year’s Eve”, says Dalcomo

Private parties crowded at Rio de Janeiro already set the tone of concern to specialists because of the increase in confirmed and suspected cases of Omicron in the country. So far, 395 have been infected in Brazil with the new strain.

In the capital and in Búzios, a tourist city in the Lakes Region, events gathered hundreds of people gathered in front of stages set up with DJs and lots of music. About the events in Brazil, and in particular, in Rio de Janeiro, the researcher from Fiocruz, Margareth Dalcomo summed it up as worrisome.

“We are already preparing for the boom of cases after the Christmas Eve. We expect to have many cases a week later. Ômicron has proved, so far, less lethal, but with a faster transmission”, emphasized Dalcomo.

Proof of complete vaccination was required at most events. THE Rio de Janeiro Health Department (SMS) informed that all closed public parties are instructed to request a vaccination passport for participants. If the event takes place in a covered area, the use of a mask is mandatory. In open areas, protection is optional.

Búzios had several events. One of them brought together hundreds of young people on Thursday’s night (30) and there was a record of confusion among attendees. The Civil Police confirmed an injured person. The victim was rescued and taken to the hospital.

For the night of the turn, in addition to fireworks on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro and fireworks shows carried out by the city hall, other parties are planned and announced with presentations by famous Carnival blocks, electronic music DJs and presentations by famous artists.
