Rui Rio accuses judge Manuel Soares of lying in an interview with DN

Rui Rio resorted this Friday (31) to the social network Twitter to accuse judge Manuel Soares of lying, in an interview with DN, in which he stated that “after three years, a single measure proposed by the PSD to justice, removing the change in the composition of the Superior Council of the Public Ministry”.

In his Twitter post, the PSD leader writes: “The attacks that [Manuel Soares] makes me in this interview are intellectually dishonest, because you are fully aware that they are a lie. Apart from everything we have said and written, as early as 2018, we delivered a dossier for justice reform to all party leaders. Its ugly!”

Before that, the social-democrat leader had already retweeted another publication, by PSD deputy Mónica Quintela, on the same subject, in which the deputy found it strange that “the president of the judges union says he does not know the PSD’s measures for justice , when he even participated in debates about them”.

In an interview to DN, published this Friday, the president of the Portuguese Association of Judges criticizes Rui Rio, referring to “it is strange that people do not find it strange that after three years, a single measure proposed by the PSD for the justice, removing the change in the composition of the Superior Council of the Public Ministry, and this was an important and sensitive measure”.

Is it conceivable that we think there is a party leader who has justice reform as a priority and still hasn’t said what it is? I have said several times that this has only two explanations and both are bad. Either the PSD does not know what reform it wants to carry out in court and, therefore, is limited to using this argument in a populist way, or it knows and does not say, but if that is the case, it is even worse. We look at what the PSD’s electoral program is, which is the only one I know of that has already been released to justice, and what we see is reform of training, classifications, councils, reform of this, reform of that, but it was important to know what exact measures the parties propose”.

Cited by the TSF, PSD deputy Mónica Quintela, a lawyer, recalls that the PSD “is the only party that has been pushing for a reform in the courts”.

“I can’t understand how the president of the judges union comes to say that he is unaware of the measures of the PSD and makes a strong concrete criticism of the PSD, when the PSD is the only party that has been pushing for a reform in the justice system. utter expressions like the ones you uttered. This, effectively, causes perplexity.“, reply.

The Social Democratic deputy also accuses judges of wanting to make laws for others, but not for themselves. “For example, the Association of Judges came to make the proposal to political parties, came to the Assembly of the Republic, for the criminalization of illicit enrichment or for the concealment of wealth. It forgot to say that the same judges who propose this, tried to a precautionary measure to suspend the effectiveness of the act in relation to them. In other words, what they want to apply to others, they do not want to be applied to them in court”, he reveals.
