Another 49 new cases of infection with the Omicron strain, detected in Romania. The community transmission of the new strain has begun

The National Institute of Infectious Diseases “Matei Balş” today confirmed another 49 new cases of infection with the OMICRON strain of Sars-Cov-2 virus.

It is about 28 men and 21 women aged between 0 and 79 years from Bucharest and Cluj, Ialomița, Ilfov, Prahova, Suceava and Vaslui counties.

Seven of those infected have a history of travel to the UK and Nigeria, and 32 are vaccinated against COVID-19.

The total number of confirmed cases with the OMICRON variant of SARS CoV-2 virus is 92.

Figures for the last 24 hours suggest the start of Community transmission for the OMICRON strain, which is likely to become dominant in the next two weeks.
