From January 1, 2022, employers will not be able to keep an employee paid for the minimum wage for more than two years

The government has adopted a normative act that becomes due in 2024, but the countdown starts on January 1, 2022. The announcement was made by the Minister of Public Finance, Adrian Câciu.

Adrian Câciu: “The measure is a transitional one, we are slowly getting back to normal with what the minimum wage phenomenon means.

I also said it, the minimum wage in Romania is a strict element of social protection, as provided by the Romanian Constitution, unfortunately, it has been transformed into a phenomenon at the level of the labor market, a phenomenon of effective wages.

We are trying to get back to normal by helping, on the other hand, entrepreneurs during this transition period, so that the staff is qualified. ”

Therefore, employees who had the minimum wage until January 1, 2022, will no longer be able to be paid the minimum wage after the next two years, and employers will pay them an income higher than its value, two years from January 1, 2022. .

However, the waiting horizon is a long one and no one guarantees employees that after 2 years they will have the same job, but neither the amount of the increase, if it exists.
