Covid-19. Portugal registers 21 deaths and more than 23 thousand new cases

This Saturday, the first day of the year 2022, Portugal has 21 deaths and 23,920 new cases of covid-19. There are also three fewer people hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (142 in total).

Active cases increased again in the last 24 hours, totaling 196,223, 17,511 more than on Friday, and 5,758 people recovered from the disease, bringing the national total of recoveries to 1,197,737.

Of the 21 deaths, seven occurred in the North region, six in the Center, four in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, one in Alentejo, one in Algarve, one in Madeira and one in the Azores.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, 18,976 people have lost their lives and 1,412,396 have been infected.
