Anvisa recommends that the government suspend cruise season in Brazil

Anvisa (photo) recommended this Friday (31) that the Ministry of Health suspend the cruise season in the country, registers O Globo.

The orientation comes after two ships are interdicted due to outbreaks of Covid on the vessels — as we reported earlier, the agency ordered one of them to return from Salvador to Santos and its passengers to be quarantined.

According to the health surveillance, the recommendation is based on “national and world epidemiological data, especially on the appearance and transmission in national territory of the Ômicron variant”.

Anvisa’s statement also argues that the cruise season was resumed in Brazil in a scenario prior to the identification of the new variant, responsible for a spike in Covid cases worldwide.

Anvisa’s recommendation, however, will still have to pass through the scrutiny of the Ministries of Health, Justice and Infrastructure. While the break in the season does not occur, the ships will be able to operate off the coast of the country.
