1. He mocked the pandemic and the doctors

Maurizio Buratti became popular in Italy by notorious phone calls to one of the Italian radio stations “La Zanzara”, where he was allowed to spread conspiracy theories, including regarding COVID-19. But Buratti was known for his views long before the pandemic started. The man had been calling the radio for over 10 years and preaching anti-Semitic views.

In the era of the pandemic, the radio allocated a separate airtime for Buratti. The 61-year-old freely argued about the absence of a pandemic, the “Jewish lobby” and hospital workers in his hometown, whom he called “communists”. He admitted on the air that when he began to fall ill, with 38 degrees Celsius he went to the supermarket without a mask and deliberately “spread the plague”.

2. He didn’t really believe in COVID-19

Buratti was eventually hospitalized with acute COVID-19 symptoms. He spent 22 days in the intensive care unit, where he was intubated. He died shortly thereafter. In the last days of his life, he announced that he was going to leave Italy and seek asylum in Korea or Turkey. In this way, he wanted to avoid having to vaccinate himself. Italian media reports that the man until the end argued that COVID-19 does not exist.
