A cruise has been docked since Wednesday in the port of Lisbon with an outbreak of Covid-19. There are more than 4,000 passengers on board the ship.

The liner “Aidanova” left Germany and had Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands, as its destination. New Year’s Eve should take place off Funchal.

But the pandemic turned these tourists around. The news was released on Friday by CNN, according to which the “Aidanova” was held up at the Santa Apolónia terminal after several crew members tested positive for Covid-19.

AT Renaissance, Captain Vieira Branco, from the Lisbon Local Command, explains that the ship entered the port on Wednesday, the 29th, “reporting 14 cases, all of them in the crew”.

“All elements are vaccinated and asymptomatic or with mild symptoms” and “were landed to the hotel unit”, indicates captain Vieira Branco.

On Thursday, the 30th, “the ship reported the existence of 38 more positive cases”, making a total of 52 infected.

The ship was traveling with 4,000 passengers and should resume its journey on Sunday, January 2nd.

“The ship is scheduled to leave on January 2 at 18:00, heading for Lanzarote”, indicates captain Vieira Branco to Renaissance.

According to a source from the Maritime Police cited by CNN Portugal, the case is being monitored by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
