More than 3,000 people canceled trips this New Year’s Eve at the Cuiabá bus station for fear of Covid-19 or the new flu. The data refer to the period from the 13th to the 29th of this month, according to the terminal manager, Selmo de Oliveira.
“It is important to emphasize that passengers must pay attention to the use of masks, hygiene and distancing measures. The period still requires this care. This we have observed with ticket cancellations. That is, they are people who either have the flu or are afraid to travel. It is important to have this concern”, he explained.
In all, 3,089 thousand people canceled their trips through the bus station because of this fear pointed out by Selmo.
Despite this, the administration informed that more than 97 thousand passengers passed through the Engenheiro Cássio Veiga de Sá terminal this year.
This means a daily average of 5,720 passengers between departures and arrivals, which represents a 29% increase in movement compared to last year’s record, when the average was 4,426 customers. With this increase, companies had to lease more buses.
“This movement was even a surprise for other transport companies. Some companies, of course, chartered vehicles. It is important to highlight that every vehicle to perform this service, even if chartered, must pass through the authorization of the regulatory agency”, he said.
The most sought after destinations on interstate lines were the cities of São Paulo (SP), Goiânia (GO), Campo Grande (MS), Porto Alegre (RS), Curitiba (PR) and Porto Velho (RO).
On the intercity lines, the main destinations were the municipalities of Sinop, Rondonópolis, Juína, Aripuanã, Barra do Garças and Querência.
Already predicting a scenario for January, he estimates that approximately 145 thousand passengers will pass through the bus station.
